Pay per click engines - Which ones are worthwhile? Years ago, webmasters had to struggle creatively to design sites that would appear high in search engine listings under any particular keyword or phrase. Today, a 'number one position' can be attained much more easily; usually by buying it via a 'pay per click' gateway. Major pay per clicks like Overture.Com, FindWhat.Com, and Sprinks.Com feed results to over large search engines; often positioning them above standard, non-bidded listings. Overture, in particular, has deals with virtually every major search engine online. If you bid for a #1 position with Overture, your site is likely to appear at the top of the results on AOL, Netscape, and so many others. Kanoodle.Com, Epilot.Com, and 7Search.Com are also reputable pay per clicks capable of delivering genuine, targeted traffic to your site as well. But unlike "regular" search engines, it may not be beneficial to submit your site to every single pay per click out there... The problem with pay per clicks is that there are simply too many of them...and more seem to arrive everyday. As of this writing, we have not found it prudent to recommend signing up with EVERY pay per click engine online. Indeed, this statement almost seems to contradict our recommendation to add your site to every "regular" search engine database regardless of cost but our research simply hasn't found the smaller pay per click engines to be as effective as the smaller non-PPC engines. For one thing, they rarely have a sufficient amount of non-PPC database listings and only spew out results from their few paying customers whenever there's an exact bidded word match. Thus, they don't attract many end-users. Most of the smaller PPCs appear more like small commercial directories than information search engines of any usefulness to the end-user. A good number of them require that you deposit $20 or more just to open an account and that virtually non-refundable money is never used up so you never really get any value for it. Moreover, with smaller engines, webmasters have no realistic way to know if their 'clickthroughs' are legitimate without investing heavily in surefire tracking technologies. And even if they are accurate: A good number of them are probably just the competition testing industry keywords out. At least with true spider search engines, you can submit [even if you have to pay a small fee] your site one time and KNOW it's "up there" while resting assured that there's false or erroneous traffic clicking on your link while you're paying per hit. And so, pay per clicks are the ONLY kind of "service" for which we don't recommend listing your site with EVERY single engine out there; We only really recommend doing so with those who distribute their listings to a significant number of third party engines such as Overture, Findwhat, Sprinks, 7Search, Kanoodle, & Epilot. Lists featuring the hottest PPC engines can usually be found here or here - just don't forget to submit your site to every NON-pay per click engine out there; whether or not they charge a fee!
